On Behalf Of Scenarios on the Privacy Dashboard



 

Try out this new option on the Privacy Dashboard which gives everyone greater control over their data. With this, parents can view and manage data on behalf of their children.

Prerequisite: If you haven’t previously set up a Microsoft Family, follow the guidelines in  setup a Microsoft Family before attempting this quest.

Optional: Generate some data for the child’s account by having them log in and browse the web in Edge, search in Bing, watch movie previews, and/or use Windows apps.

from the Parent account:

  1. Navigate to Stay in control of your privacy page and complete the sign-in for the parent account.
  2. Click Activity History and filter the data by clicking the child’s name/picture.

    Note: If you haven’t previously setup a Microsoft Family, your children’s data will not be available for filtering on this page.

  3. Explore the data.
  4. Click Delete on a child’s data item.
  5. Click Clear activity for an entire data type of the child’s data.
  6. Ensure the text at the top of the page is relevant to the current user.

From the Child account:

  1. Navigate to Stay in control of your privacy, and complete the sign-in for the child account.
  2. Click Activity History.
  3. Explore the data and verify that items deleted by the parent no longer appear in the child’s account.
  4. Ensure the text at the top of the page is relevant to the current user.
